A series of DanubEnergy workshops on IFBB technology took place on the site of the Technical Services Zlín, s.r.o., on 10-11, and 14-15 April 2014. The workshops were attended by representatives of the Zlín Region, representatives of municipalities and technical services, operators of biogas plants, students of Tomas Bata University in Zlin etc. In total, 113 individuals from 63 institutions participated in the workshops.

The first part of the workshop introduced the project Danubenergy and its background. In addition, examples of waste management in the Czech Republic and abroad were discussed. Representatives of Kassel University presented the IFBB technology and the importance of utilizing waste biomass, either from urban green areas or landscape maintenance, for energy production. References were also given for the use of household bio waste and its applicability in the context of biogas production which is an important part of the IFBB technology.

In the second part of the program, the participants visited the IFBB demonstration unit Blue Conrad. Representatives of Kassel University demonstrated how the complete IFBB technology works in practice. The participants had many questions, mainly how the IFBB approach serves their specific local needs and fits into their local frame conditions. Many participants were also curious where the name “Blue Conrad” came from. As disclosed by a representative of Kassel University, the name of the unit is derived from the colour of the container storing the equipment and the name of the university professor who first suggested this innovative approach.
